Well, Ramiele is gone from American Idol. I would be pissed but to tell the truth, she really has kinda sucked these past weeks.. I think that she's had too many chances to blow everyone away but she's underperformed so much that it's actually almost a relief to see her go.

American Idol: Top 12 girls

Ok.. 60's night again. I started the night out with optimism since the guys' night was pure suckatude (with the exception of 1 or 2). Sadly, my hopes were again dashed like that kid who just found out that santa claus isn't real. Let's move along shall we:

Kristy Lee Cook
-BLAH. She seems so generic. Looks like Jenna Bush (but thinner).
The whole crap about bronchitis kinda makes me feel bad for her, but Simon put it well when he said that even if she weren't sick, the song choice was just too bad.
-Prediction: She's in for next week. Bronchitis will be out.
-Kelly Factor: 5 out of 10. She seems to appeal to some people... why she does I can't comprehend. But she's marketable, even with a boring voice.

Joanne Borgella
-She makes nails on a chalkboard sound like Whitney Houston. Okay, I know in her vid that she wants to somehow change the way people look at big girls but COME ON! pick a better song for your high pitched voice. PLEASE! haven't dolphins suffered enough? Pretty girl though... I could see her more as a contestant on America's Next Top Model than AI.
-Prediction: Her pretty face will keep her in til next week.
-Kelly Factor: 4 out of 10

Alaina Whitaker
-Her gap teeth are distracting. Like Kristy Cook she's boring, but she does have a better voice (and better song choice) than Kristy. Kinda looks like (and sounds a little if you try hard enough) like Carrie Underwood. Still on the fence about her but the judges kinda like her so I'll give her a shot.
-Prediction: Wasn't the worst, wasn't the best, she'll probably be in.
-Kelly Factor: 5 out of 10. She's interchangeable with Kristy Cook until I see otherwise.

Brooke White
-Love her attitude. She's so white girl all american, but not to a point where it's sickening yet. There's something about her too, she reflects alot of those one hit wonder musician chicks nowadays (like Regina Spektor or Vanessa Carlton) which kinda makes her relevant. She has a pleasing tone although the song at times got bigger than her, she made it her own which was nice.
-Prediction: She'll make the top 12
-Kelly Factor: 7 out of 10. Hopefully She'll take that keyboard out and do some Carole King.

Amanda Overmyer
-Well, aside from looking like a life-size goth Bratz doll, she's pretty good. I was hoping she would have chosen an Aretha song (I think her voice would have suited it well) instead of going the predicatable rock song (Van Morrison no less). The song choice was a little weird, as did her performance but I guess it just adds to the charm.
-Prediction: America usually hates freaks, but considering there were worse performances she'll be through to next week.
-Kelly Factor: 7 out of 10. She's got something about her. One to watch.

Alexandrea Lushington
-I'm a proponent for her just changing her name to A. Lush. She's got way too many syllables for the common buyer to remember. Performance wise, I liked it. Judging by her performance she definitely doesn't have the best voice among the contestants (her high notes felt SO off), but her song choice was decent and she seemed to take good control of the stage with enough confidence to sway some of the judges. Unfortunately, she was one of the ones who never got any screen time from auditions so she'll have to work extra hard to build a fan base.
-Prediction: Her quirkyness will see her through to next week.
-Kelly Factor: 4 out of 10. Nothing special. She's Fefe Dobson-ish

Asia'h Eppherson
-A good rendition of Janis Joplin, although Amanda would've killed it if she sang it. Her voice is nothing distinct, but there are traces of potential greatness in there. It was a mediocre performance which will take her to the next round.
-Prediction: She'll make it through to next week.
-Kelly Factor: 4 out of 10. She's gotta start belting out some Beyonce or something if she wants to keep people interested.

Kady Malloy
-This girl has an awesome persona. Love the Britney impersonation and her confessionals about it... she's hilarious, I could see her doing tv (non-reality duh.) Voice wise I thought she was really good, I was surprised that the judges didn't like it because she has one of the better, more refined voices among the women.. very recordable and there's a hint of power behind it. I felt so bad because it looked like she was going to cry... the judges missed on this one.
-Prediction: America loves its blondes... til next week at least.
-Kelly Factor: 6 out of 10. There's a star in the making here.

Amy Davis
-Zzzzzzzz
-Prediction: Cya.
-Kelly Factor: 1 out of 10. I feel so bad for this girl but just thinking about her perfozzzzzzzzzz. Seriously, Samantha Sidley lost a spot to her?

Ramew Malubay
-I'm just going to start calling Ramiele Ramew. Because 1) she kinda looks like a kitten
IS THE SAME AS

and 2) if you keep saying her name it starts to sound like you're meowing. She killed her song though, which earned her praise from all 3 judges (although I could've gone for a more powerful ending). She's definitely one of the strongest competitors so far, but good god does she need a personality. She's like a robot on stage, even when the judges give her compliments. Doesn't she know that the way to get votes is to act like one of those circus seals when judges give you compliments? She needs a personality shot STAT.
-Prediction: Top 12 easily. Maybe top 5.
Kelly Factor: 7 out of 10. She's gotta take that voice further though... maybe to a place that can get her some personality.

Sayesha Mercado
-I'm over her. First, I really doubt the validity of her losing her voice "all of a sudden" during hollywood week (even if she did, she overly exaggerated it). She's got a powerful voice, but again, nothing distinct. She's sellable though, but not as an Idol. I could see her doing High School Musical 11 or something. The judges creamed for her, but again, her performance was solid and loud which is what the previous contestants should have been bringing anyways.
-Prediction: Top 12
Kelly Factor: 5 out of 10. There's something fake about her, something not real that comes across.

Carly Smithsson.
-I agree with Simon on this one. Much ado about nothing. She's had better performances during the audition stage and her performance tonight was just forgettable. That and she does this weird thing with her eyes when she sings, kinda creepy really. Although if you look at it, who better for the kids to have as a role model than a goth looking irish chick? I'm sure her drinking could put Paris, Britney and Lindsey to shame.
-Prediction: Top 12, possibly top 6.
-Kelly Factor: 6 out of 10. Her performance tonight really brought her down a peg (or as they call it in her native Ireland, a pint of Guiness).

Top 6 for the womens is going to be tricky but my preditions are: Ramew, Sayesha, Kristy Lee, Carly, Amanda and either Joanne or Kady.

Bah, I'm slowly getting over this so called "best contestants yet" season. I'm still hoping the judges will include a wildcard spot for either Josiah Leming or Samantha Sidley.

American Idol

So a new season of American Idol started last night, and since I seemingly have nothing better to do with my life, let me blog about it so that I can pretend people are interested in what I think.

Last night was the first night of the top 24 round featuring the top 12 guys. In what has been billed as the best top 24 yet (and they say this every season.. seriously, who's ever going to admit that it's not? I dream of the day when when Randy Jackson says "eh, this season is alright") Let's go through them one by one.

It was 60's night (which must have been a first for AI having a theme night for the top 24.. not a big fan of the change but whatever.)

David Hernandez
-good voice, I'd have to say probably top 3 vocally among the guys. However Simon is right when he alludes that there doesn't seem to be anything memorable about his voice or him. His intro starts with a sob story (which American Idol contestant doesn't nowadays? it's a requirement people!) blah blah low income housing, blah blah, starts the song, good vovals, totally forgettable. Not much personality either, he's a little better looking than some of the other contestants (see Colton Berry below).
-Prediction: 50/50 chance of making it into the top 12 if people recognize good vocals.
-Kelly Factor: 4 out of 10 Kellys (Clarkson of course, who should be the standard for all future American Idols)

Chikeze
-boring. ugly suit. kinda reminds me of a fatter Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He has the balls to talk over simon Cowell, which can sometimes work for you, but ultimately just made him look like a douche. PASS.
But I must say one thing. Even though Paula may not be on drugs, she sure does act like it. Singing in colors? You crazy Paula! but then again, it IS 60's night, so she might have been getting into the groove if you know what I'm saying. If you don't then replace "GROOVE" with "LSD".
-Prediction: He will make it into the top 12 being the token black guy/soul singer.
-Kelly factor: 3 out 10 Kellys, he's gotta choose better songs. Sing some Dream or Omarion dammit!

David Cook
-BLAH. Rocker wannabe. Seriously, if you want to be a rocker, I don't think you'll find validity in doing so by being a contestant on American Idol. Hello Constantine Maroulis! Daughtry you say? Well if Daughtry becomes the next U2 or Rolling Stones then I'll gladly sever my left nut. Rachel, my AI buddy, adores him which means he's got the emo girl vote. The song was ok, vocals were middle of the road for me (ugh, I'm channeling Randy Jackson), really the only thing he has going for him is the fact that he's a rocker... but there's 3 of them this season which will probably split the voters up.
-Prediction: He'll make it to the top 12 thanks to his frosted red hair (helloooo 90's)
-Kelly Factor: 5 out of 10. He's one of the more memorable ones.

Jason Yeager
-AGAIN with the frosted tips! This guy's inspiration for hair must be Rogue from the X-men. Boring performance, nothing memorable. Although he seems to have a nice personality and he's got the kid thing going for him, he might get some sympathy votes.
-Prediction: I wouldn't be surprised if he was the first person cut.
-Kelly Factor: 2 out of 10. He's gotta step it up if he makes it to the next round.

Robbie Carrico
-BLAH. Again with the rocker types. Among the 3 this season (David Cook and Michael Johns being the other 2) he's probably got the voice least suited for rock. Simon doubts his authenticity, which is not unfounded in my opinion. He WAS in a boy band from Orlando after all. Although I did like the arrangement of the song so props to him (if he arranged it that is).
-Prediction: Top 12 thanks to being a rocker and being Britney's ex.
-Kelly Factor: 4 out of 10. Not as memorable as David Cook.

David Archuleta
-Ding ding ding! We have a winner folks. Simon said it best, "When you've got it, you've got it" Great song choice from the Miracles feat. Smokey Robinson, great on stage prescence and a very marketable demeanor. His voice seems kinda awkward when he goes into the lower notes (almost drag-ish) but damn if he isn't one likeable kid. He's current, he's a good singer, and in this world of Hanna Montanas and Miley Cyruseseses, he'll sell.
-Prediction: Final 3 at least... possible winner.
Kelly Factor: 8 out of 10

Danny Noriega
-He just seems like he's trying too hard, although judging from his past footage, this guy (or gal?)'s got a crazy good voice. Graet personality too, he's like in his own little Danny Noriega world when he talks. He's got to bring it if he makes it to the next round.
-Prediction: America isn't going to vote for the gay teen drama queen. Sorry Danny.
-Kelly Factor: 6 out of 10. Kids got a voice.

Luke Menard
-What's Wolverine doing on American Idol?
-Prediction: If he makes it into the top 12 it's because people think he's Hugh Jackman.
-Kelly Factor: 1 out of 10. He's gotta dig deep and unleash some Robin Thicke or something.

Colton Berry

PLUS

EQUALS

I think that says enough.
Prediction: Will make it through to next week. BLAH.
Kelly Factor: 2 out of 10 (what does this guy have to offer? really? and they passed up Josiah "fake british accent" Leming for this? ugh.)

Garrett Haley

PLUS

EQUALS

again... what were the judges thinking when they let this kid through? are people going to buy albums from an albino Joan Van Ark who sings like a chipmunk?
Prediction: Mercy killing, American Idol style if not this week then soon.
Kelly Factor: 1 out of 10

Jason Castro
-I like how American Idol lets the contestants use instruments now (you'd think they would've gotten the hint sooner with all the Michelle Branches and Colby Calait's selling nowadays) I expected his voice to be edgier though, mostly because of his look. Not bad, definitely a front runner for the guys.
Prediction: Top 12 thanks to the dreds.
Kelly Factor: 6 out of 10 (his voice is just off somehow.. he's gotta change the look)

Michael Johns
-My friend Rachel is in love with this guy but again, i just don't buy it. American Idol is the avenue for people who want to be famous, not people who want to rock, and M.J. hits me as the former. Great singer though, he's difnitely got the voice. Boring song choice since we've seen him do it before.
-Prediction: Top 12 naturally, but he won't win because America has this Xenophobia thing. (psst.. he's Australian.)
-Kelly Factor: 8 out of 10. He's good and he'll sell, I'll give him that.

So all in all, the top 12 guys with the exception of some like David A. and Michael Johns is just really mediocre. I still can't believe people like Colton Berry and Garrett Haley beat out other kids like Josiah. Here's my prediction for the top 6 guys: David Archuleta, Michael Johns, David Cook, Robbie Carrico, Jason Castro and Chikeze.

It's the girls' turn tonight. Go Team Ramiele and Team Brooke!

*oh yeah, I claim no rights to any of the pictures seen here. So don't sue me bitches.
